As chair of the 38th District Democrats, I was chagrined to read that one of our precinct committee officers, Michael Maddox, knows so little about the issues that face the voters of the 38th District that he would endorse Rep. John McCoy’s opponent (Letters, 10-20 “Halverson not tied to special interests”).
If he was aware of the issues that were important to the Democrats, he would know that we want someone in office who has actually voted prior to the primary on Sept. 14 because involvement in this district begins with voting, not with running for office.
Mr. Maddux then talks of Ms. Halvorson’s strong sense of what needs to change in Olympia, but does not realize the changes that Rep. McCoy has made.
Rep. McCoy supported legislation that would have allowed Washington to buy prescription drugs from Canada. He has brought in over $9 million to renovate Everett Community College. He has brought in over $300 million to improve transportation in the 38th District. I believe Rep. McCoy has more than a sense of the change needed, he delivers the change needed.
When I define the type of legislator I want representing the 38th District, John McCoy fits that description to a T.
