If the Marysville School District teachers want to look for someone to blame for the 51 job cuts announced last week, they can look squarely in the mirror.
“We don’t think these cuts are necessary,” said Elaine Hanson, president of the Marysville Education Association, the teachers’ union. “They should be cutting somewhere else. As they have been saying all along, the teacher is important as far as the delivery of education.”
This is the typical statement put forth by the MEA. In other words, what it is saying is cut someone else’s means, but don’t take ours. What did the MEA expect? Do you think it warned its union members that if they went on strike 50 of them could lose their jobs? The unlawful strike by the union not only has ruined many family vacations this year and screwed up schedules, it put our children’s education at risk and has caused serious damage for the next few years to come.
Maybe next time the MEA will think about the consequences of its actions before it selfishly makes a decision that is solely in its best interest and not that of the community.
