As most people are aware, Feb. 19 is the date for Washington’s presidential primary. However, it is also the date that the Lakewood School District is asking voters to approve two measures: The Replacement School Program and Operations Levy, and the Technology Levy.
The Replacement School Program and Operations Levy is a renewal of the 2004 voter-approved ballot measure. Approximately 17 percent of the school district’s operating budget comes from this voter-approved levy. Funding from this measure pays for books, supplies, athletics and transportation.
The Technology Levy fully funds the district’s plan to improve our students’ education. This measure would replace outdated student and staff computers, software, classroom equipment, printers and the needed infrastructure improvements not covered by current funding sources.
As our children continue to grow and mature, they will eventually be the leaders of tomorrow and it’s our duty to make sure they are prepared to accept that responsibility with a quality education. Our parents and grandparents fulfilled this promise and now it is our turn. Please renew your support to our kids by voting “yes” on Feb. 19.
