One of the troubling issues during the election marathon was the vicious efforts by some of the TV media to demean, degrade and ridicule Sarah Palin. This wasn’t just hard-nosed politics, this looked like a concerted effort to make her look as foolish as possible. All you have to do is to look at the body language reflected by the interviewers to understand their agenda. Their bodies were closed up, arms folded, with their faces reflecting either scowling or a snide and demeaning countenance.
It was like junior high Mean Girls gone mad. All Palin did was to accept a respected senator’s request to be his running mate. She didn’t step into the arena on her own, she accepted an invitation.
Sure, she is different. Like most of us, she has her own way of talking and gesturing. Did she have all the answers? Of course not, and neither did anyone else. Her failure was that she didn’t fit the media’s criteria, (how dare she run for vice president?) The example set by some of the media for our young people was that it’s OK to attack someone who doesn’t fit into your group. Not the best example for our younger folks.
