Every day in the news we see or read about an interview with someone opposed to our military personnel being used to fight this war against terrorism. Their reasoning seems to center on military personnel safety and the fact that some may be injured or killed, possibly their own loved ones. My own baby brother is in the Marines. He took an oath “…. to protect the United States from her enemies both foreign and domestic.” All these men and women who join our armed forces know there is a chance that they may have to give their life to defend our nation. That’s their job.
The United States of America spends billions of dollars each year on our military personnel. They receive free training, free housing, money for college, and they get paid to boot. Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, these men and women aren’t getting a free ride. In times like these they put their lives on the line serving this great nation. This is what they are trained for, this is what they are paid for! If we took the advice of the citizens opposed to this war we would be putting even more of our civilians at risk of attack rather than the personnel who are trained to confront these risks. History has shown that “peaceful action” against terrorism only encourages more attacks that have escalated to the point where one attack kills more U.S. civilians than any other war in the history of this nation.
It is time to let the men and women of the military do their jobs. It is time we did our job and support them any way we can. Its not our job to protect our military. It is their job to protect us!
