I hate the Fourth. The reckless misuse of fireworks, legal and illegal, has caused this hatred. On more than one occasion, I implored the city of Lynnwood to prohibit the availability and detonation of fireworks within its jurisdiction, but to no avail. With all the destruction to property in past years due to firework related fires, it is surprising Lynnwood still persists in playing a part in this selfishly reckless and potentially life threatening amusement. Fortunately, the death count has been minimal, although there have been many injuries to children. However, if a firework ignited the dried-up needles of a fir tree in this densely populated region during the right weather conditions, a catastrophic firestorm could result.
