The recent letter by Cheryl Palmer of Lake Stevens asks a common question. Where’s the lottery money for schools? I can answer that.
With the exception of about $14 million for the two pro sport stadiums, one of which was approved by a vote of the people, it goes to prizes and to building schools. As a side note, I didn’t vote for either stadium.
$6 billion is spent on schools every year in this state. The lottery brings in about $80 million for construction. A small, small part of the funding.
Any place you can buy a lottery ticket you can get a pamphlet detailing where the money goes. I even check to see that they are in stores as I travel around our area. Ask your merchant for this pamphlet. If they don’t have them, call me (360-568-5204).
