I was enthused to read that the City of Everett spent $5,400 at the post office mailing notices to residents about the danger of placing hair and grease down the sink (“Budget watch,” The Herald, Jan. 27). I am sure that there were some printing, handling and administrative costs involved in this public service advisory too, probably bringing the cost to right around $10,000 or more. I think the City should raise the gas tax 2 cents per gallon so that it can finance a follow-up bulletin regarding the most sinister of all drainage demons – the potato peel!
