More Democratic logic?

John Slusher feels that George W. Bush should not be president because “he did not resign his position as governor of Texas in order to run” (“George W. Bush: Drew pay during campaign,” Letters, Nov. 26). The fact of the matter is that Al Gore did not resign as vice president in order to run and therefore should not qualify either! My question is, “What rules do we apply to determine which candidate should be chosen when a criteria that was developed after the election is over was not met?” Clearly this is a case of determining the intent of the candidate. Shades of Florida!
