More guns mean more death

As humans, we often fail to recognize limits to our behavior. Drivers drink, text, use cell phones and laptops, eat, sort music, etc., all while driving. But they all believe their behavior at the time is not dangerous. Recently in the letters to the editor, gun owners keep using phrases like “reasonable,” “responsible,” ” intelligent,” and “legal,” when in fact the truth is many fail to recognize their own limits. The mother of the Sandy Hook killer had a large gun collection, yet it was available to her obviously disturbed son. The mall shooter in Clackamas was able to steal his weapon from yet another gun owner who obviously did not secure his weapons.

Here in our state, a Marysville policeman with professional training left a loaded weapon with no safety within reach of his 3 year old who was said to have a fascination with guns. The morning news tells of three gun show shootings from owners who failed to secure or operate their weapons appropriately.

Personally, I do not feel safer with 300 million guns in the possession of the general public which repeatedly shows bad judgement in many things. The answer is not in more guns in more places in the hands of more people. This will only lead to more more senseless death and tragedy.
