Regarding your April 3 editorial endorsing additional HOT (high occupancy toll) lanes on I-405, the facts need more research. (“Plan deserves green light.“)
A few weeks ago the Legislature was discussing the topic when it was revealed that the test of HOT lanes on Highway 167 was not paying the bills. The expense of collecting the tolls was more than the HOT lane tolls being collected. Please contact the state Department of Transportation for more data.
You will have to dig as they are not forthcoming with data. The DOT report available online makes no mention of costs, only gross tolls collected.
