More vitriol, despite the election win

With unfortunate frequency, our conservative friends have expressed contempt here for fellow citizens who don’t share their views. Thus, it was folly to hope that the vitriol might abate after their “yuge” election day victory. In fact, a Nov. 30 letter has reduced our conversation to yet another new low. This observation is based on the writers last two paragraphs. “I am reminded of a quote by J.F.K. ‘If you make peaceful revolution impossible, you make violent revolution inevitable’. “Let this election stand as a warning to those on the left who will sink ever lower to turn this country into a socialist cesspool. The next time it won’t be so peaceful.” (Earlier on he referred to the election as a “truly peaceful revolution”.)

I can’t read the gentleman’s mind (thankfully) so I can only wonder just what this less peaceful revolution he warns of might entail. What sinister fate awaits me now that I have identified myself as one of “those on the left”? Perhaps a band of hooded patriots, demonstrating their love for our country and the Constitution, will come in the night to burn down my house and kill my cats? Heaven forbid! Still things could be far worse. At least I’m not one of those on the right who will sink ever lower to turn this country into cesspool of hate, bigotry and intolerance; a country where facts go to die. But yes, I am still very frightened. Very frightened indeed.
