Most retailers sell Chinese products

Many comments have been made about Wal-Mart coming to Monroe. As a Monroe resident, I decided to weigh in on the newest arrival to our community. I must agree Wal-Mart comes with a lot of baggage concerning their employees, however the statement that “all they carry is Chinese made products” actually applies to all retail stores.

The fact is this is nothing new, as a child of the 1950s I remember everyone complained that everything being made was coming from Japan, followed by the same complaints about Taiwan. Check out your clothing labels sometime, from low-end to high-end. They are made in a host of nations: Mexico, China, India, Columbia, Canada and so on.

The doors of trade with Asia opened thousands of years ago. Marco Polo has been recognized as setting up trade with Asia and he was the first to bring Chinese noodles back to Europe, which became spaghetti. America supplied the first tomatoes to Europe, along with corn.

I think the problem with China is their stand on fair trade products from the United States. I think the Chinese should have as many products that are made in the U.S. coming into their country so they can say those Americans have invaded us with too many products. The conversation should be about fair trade, not who carries what products, so that we are all on equal footing.
