I was one of the Everett citizens, admittedly there were few, in attendance at the Jan. 6 meeting of the City Council. Mr. Gipson’s motion to return to three morning meetings per month took me by surprise, as it did my colleagues. It was a shock to know that four of my representatives would prefer that I not be given an opportunity to publicly weigh in on matters of my own city unless I fake a sick day. However, I was even more taken aback by the motives behind the motion.
I am absolutely appalled at the realization that two men, elected by the citizens they represent and charged with acting in their best interest, would make such an important decision based on spite! As a power play, no less! Their actions have shown me and my fellow citizens that they are not to be trusted.
I expected more from Mr. Moore, and I implore him to not align himself with Mr. Hatloe or Mr. Gipson at this early juncture. Mr. Affholter: ditto.
Additionally, I send a heartfelt “thank you” to Mr. Nielsen, Mrs. Stonecipher and Mr. Roberts for standing up to the “old boys” and voting in favor of my right to participation. On any given Wednesday I, too, would rather be at home relaxing come 6:30 p.m., but such is the price we pay in favor of democracy. A small sacrifice in my book.
