Regarding HOV lanes: Motorcycles do belong there. New moms don’t.
Motorcycles are one of the most fuel-efficient commuter vehicles available to the general public. They take up very little road space. They do not wear out the roads like large SUVs and studded tires. Four can park in the space one auto takes.
As far as speeding goes, do any car drivers speed?
Not being surrounded by tons of metal for protection, the cyclist is a lot safer in the HOV lane since many motorists “Do not see them,” which is the common statement in an auto-versus-cycle traffic incident. The lady that turned left into my motorcycle when I was right beside her driver’s window claimed she didn’t see me. She was fine; I was laid up for three months.
You won’t see motorcyclists in rush hour traffic shaving, reading books or papers, applying makeup, doing their hair, constantly yapping on the cellphone, working their iPod, eating a meal, smoking a cigarette and tossing the remains out the window (while tailgating), either.
If more folks commuted by motorcycle we wouldn’t be spending so much tax money on road repairs, adding new lanes and more roads.
Less fossil fuel burned and less global warming.
Think about it.
