Probably since the creation of mankind on this planet, people have been quick to judge others primarily based on unknowns about the others. I’m finding this true, especially when I mention to various people that I went to see “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”
Some people are very quick to let me know they “would not support such a thing, because it is ‘witchcraft’ and the work of the devil.”
I find such a statement very puzzling. I ask them, did you read the books or see the first film? They respond quickly with a sharp “no!” Then I let them know they just might be very misinformed about the movies and books.
The basic theme of the books and movies concerns good overcoming evil. Yes, there are witches. Although the movie is pretend, and people tend to forget that, apparently some people do not know there are good witches, too. Good witches fight against all forms of evil.
The current Harry Potter film produces some lessons:
1. The choices we make determine who we are as a person.
2. It is very important to stand up for what is right.
3. Stand up for the underdog and your friends.
4. Be loyal to your friends.
5. One should stick up for people of another race. Also, the student characters in the film get demerits for misconduct, and bonus points for doing good deeds.
This film teaches about teamwork and giving the proper recognition to those who help accomplish good, and do good deeds. Of course, there must be a counterbalance (evil) to show good overcoming evil.
I believe the film is excellent and encourage people to see it, particularly adults who might be entrenched in beliefs based upon supposition and unknowns instead of the facts.
By the way, all people planning to see this film should stay until all the credits are run and a blank screen appears. Several seconds later, they will see the real end of the film!
