In light of the tragic line-of-duty death of King County Sherriff’s Deputy Steve Cox, I feel compelled to air some thoughts regarding the complaints of the Everett residents that moved in next to the Everett Police Department shooting range.
Just how much harder do you want to make a police officer’s job? In the case of Deputy Cox, he apparently could not legally search his killer for a weapon prior to contacting him.
Now some citizens want our officers’ shooting range moved because they are bothered by the noise. As long as there are nut jobs on our streets attacking mothers with iron pipes while their children watch, I for one wish the cops could make more noise.
I’m sure that these citizens realize that number one job of government is after all, public safety. As a character played by Jack Nicholson once said, “… we live in a world with walls and those walls are guarded by people with guns. We need them on the walls. Just say thank you and go on your way.”
