The Mariners aren’t winning much lately, but they’ll have plenty of fans in Arlington on Saturday. That’s when a new youth baseball field, funded in part by a $75,000 Boeing Mariners Care Youth Athletic Field Grant awarded two years ago, will be dedicated.
It’s been 20 years since Arlington got a new public baseball field, and this one figures to get plenty of use. It was jointly developed by the city and the Arlington School District, and includes covered dugouts, a backstop, electronic scoreboard, bleachers and a portable outfield fence.
Boeing and the Mariners have contributed $1.5 million to youth field projects over the past two decades, and several Snohomish County communities have benefited. It’s a winning strategy, regardless of the baseball standings.
