The June 16 Herald was particularly revealing about my town … Mukilteo by The Sea. Mukilteo’s Save Our Communities group, the group that bases its position against commercial air service at Paine Field exclusively on any junk “studies” it can find on the Internet, should merge with the Washington State Ghost Society (also headquartered in Mukilteo). Such a merger would combine the Ghost Society’s ability to “find the nature of consciousness and reality” with the Save Our Communities group’s ability to make up reality when they can’t defend their pre-conceived position any other way.
Come on Mukilteo… demand facts from the Save Our Communities group. What peer-reviewed studies can they show you to support their case? What cities are they comparing us to? It’s just not reasonable that commercial flights, in the midst of all the current industrial and general air operations, will noticeably degrade the intelligence of our precious school children. My child attended the schools closest to Paine Field and not once in eight years was his teacher ever interrupted by noise from the field. Not once! If airfield operations are a problem because of the noise and pollution they create, then we should all stop mowing our lawns and riding such noisy polluters as trains and ferries! And oh… do you really believe that “your home value will drop 25 percent with the advent of commercial air service at Paine Field”… I’m pretty sure there would be a long line of buyers willing to “limit your losses”! I suggest that the greatest risk to your home value is, in fact, Save Our Communities, and its distorted and baseless publicity campaign to question the future of Mukilteo. Remember, big lies, told for a purpose, can often be as damaging as if they were true.
