The most impressive speakers at the Washington State Democratic Convention were U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and state Rep. Mike Cooper, who is running for commissioner of public lands.
They spoke about the issues that are most important for us in Washington. Murray talked about guaranteeing a quality education for our children, showing that she, unlike the president and many Republicans in Congress, understands the link between an educated workforce and a strong economy. Mike Cooper spoke about sustainability in managing salmon restoration and our forests, pointing to the importance of reaching agreements that do not curry favor to any particular interest group.
Sen. Murray’s thoughtful and consensus-building approach to the Wild Sky legislation shows that she takes a similar approach to these issues. I hope that as Election Day draws near, voters will look to the real merits and accomplishments of the candidates and vote accordingly.
