For young and old alike, the Village Theatre production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” is totally a “must see performance” (it runs through July 31).
As a member of the “old school,” I was initially apprehensive of the bombed-out urban setting of th
e set, but it fit perfectly into the director’s interpretation of the story of Christ’s last days. Michael Lee (Jesus), Aaron Finley (Judas) and Jennifer Paz (Mary Magdalene) lead an incredible cast of singers and dancers.
I had the privilege of playing in the band 36 years ago for a Southern Oregon University stage production, but this performance was head-and-shoulders above ours. And I was absolutely blown away to learn that Michael and Aaron alternate their roles throughout the run of the show.
I guess I could have saved 125 words and just said “Wow.”
