The city of Marysville is considering how to name the Doleshel Tree farm property, on Allen Creek near the Kellogg Marsh Elementary School, which is planned to become a city park. I feel the new park should be named for the person who, more than any other, has made the park a reality.
Former Marysville Councilperson Normajean Dierck, on her own, made the initial contact with Mr. Doleshel, gaining his cooperation and approval to delay sale of his property for eventual use as a public park. And also on her own time she wrote a grant proposal which allowed for purchase of the property, which was selected as the number one grant choice by the state that year.
NormaJean Dierck has worked tirelessly over the years to increase awareness about the importance of improving water quality as well as preserving and enhancing Allen Creek to ensure it would continue to provide a healthy spawning and rearing habitat for wild fish and other wildlife.
I urge the Marysville City Council to name the Doleshel property as the new Normajean Dierck park.
