In regard to the Sunday letter, “Let us welcome our fellow humans.”
To the writer, welcome to the United States of America. I’m glad to see freedom of speech is practiced, but just so he knows, I speak for my entire family and many people I know when I say I am offended. Frankly, I think the comparison of “we” (meaning Americans) to that of the German Nazi regime is so ill-conceived that I wonder if he was intoxicated while writing the letter. I am reminded of a quote my father used when I was a child: “It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”
Does the writer know how many thousands of Americans lost their lives trying to stop Germany? If so, why insult our veterans with tasteless comments? If he thinks we are treating people like the Germans did the Jews, why did he come here to live? As far as I am concerned he owes a sincere apology and a date with a history book.
Furthermore, the inscription on the Statue of Liberty has always held true and still does to this day. But we want immigration legally. Illegal immigration is damaging to our economy and security, ultimately hurting all of us, including immigrants like the writer.
