Several years ago I attended a lecture on the subject of “Modern Media” by John Hockenberry, a National Public Radio reporter and correspondent. He pointed out that the major TV networks had been bought out by other corporations, such as GE, which bought NBC, for whom Brian Williams was the main face and supposed newsman.
At the time, GE was making tons of money by selling generators to the U.S. Army in Iraq. (Handily for GE, the Army had destroyed much of the electrical infrastructure in Iraq.) The result: NBC did not give us the truth about that war. The other networks also did not. Williams was basically a shill for GE and its rampant war profiteering.
Williams has never been trustworthy despite his smooth looks and voice, which fooled many Americans.
So, good riddance to Williams. However, we can be sure that GE will install another shill in his place.
To get the truth, it is necessary to tune in to alternative news outlets, such as our local radio station, KSER (90.7 FM), where one can regularly hear “Democracy Now.”
