Mayor Ray Stephanson’s downplaying of property crimes (“Everett ranks low on safety”, Oct. 31) helps to explain why our driveway has been open territory to no fewer than five prowlers. Although evidence has been left at the scene, the police just send out a form. Far more effort is put into revenue-generating traffic enforcement.
The Everett City Council needs to make a priority list of crime and put property crimes on the front burner, ahead of victimless crimes.
After the last window was smashed out, my wife drove around only to find a fellow resident standing outside of his vandalized truck. When she asked him if he had reported it, he summed up the situation in Everett with a simple, “Why bother?”
