Bernie Sander’s demand to the Democratic Party to “let the people in” (regarding the primary election process), he overlooks the fact that Democratic primary elections are intended to select the party’s own presidential candidate, to be determined by the party membership. Many of his supporters are not party members. They could easily “come into the tent” by simply joining the party as Sanders did. I can understand Sanders wanting to conduct his campaign under the banner of a major political organization (independents generally don’t do well in national elections.) However, when he signed up as a Democrat, he agreed to comply with party election rules, which are set forth to promote influence by loyal Democrats. Sanders is a late-comer to the party. He should not try to hijack it for his own purposes. Now that he is a Democrat, he needs to please be a good one and follow the rules.
