A lot is being said about avoiding theft of items left in cars at shopping centers. Based on personal experience, the warning needs to go further.
Fifty years ago, after visiting both sets of grandparents on Christmas Eve with our children – ages 51/2, 41/2, 3 and 1, we prepared to return home. A box containing all of the recently opened gifts of the two oldest children was stolen from our car. It happened 25 feet from the front door in the time it takes to walk back to the house for more.
Our children were heartbroken at the discovery of the loss when we arrived home.
Never, ever, turn your back on anything, or think that no one would stoop so low. Believe me – they can and they do.
