The dollar a day funding plan for transportation is unworkable. Not just because of the present economy, but also because there are many families here that cannot afford to pay an additional $365 per year for transportation improvements.
I personally would be more inclined to vote for a gas tax and/or other tax if it would be positively destined for highway improvements and not for commuter lanes or other mass transit programs or to supplement the state ferry system.
I would also be more enthused if each job were given a priority and when that job was fully funded, it would be announced that construction was going to start on a firm date, and then the next job given the same treatment. I feel that this is the only way that anyone can be sure of where the money is being allocated.
As things stand right now, I would vote no on both of the present funding proposals.
