To wage the “new war” on terrorism, our government should adopt the following principles:
Don’t conduct mass, indiscriminate bombing campaigns. This will only pour gasoline on the coals of extremist Islamic factions worldwide and worsen our problem.
Do use small special forces strike units to quietly assassinate known terrorist individuals who are clearly guilty, and don’t make big headlines of it. Just quietly eliminate them.
Do use the crisis to create a revised Middle East peace policy that will end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and take the issue out of the hands of terrorists. A resolution of this conflict will go a long way toward deflating the cause of Islamic terrorists everywhere.
Do use this crisis to galvanize a worldwide coalition against terror. We can’t prevail against terrorism alone.
Do offer foreign governments attractive financial incentives in exchange for assistance in identifying and locating terrorist groups.
Do use Israeli security measures here at home for our airline industry, and in customs and immigration policies, in order to protect our citizens. No one ever hijacks an Israeli airliner.
Do consult with experts on the psyche of terrorists, whose knowledge can contribute to a smart way to win the battle for peoples’ minds against prospective future terrorist recruits.
Do prohibit cash transactions in the purchase of airline tickets.
Do direct the Immigration and Naturalization Service to closely monitor immigrant students on temporary visas.
