Nearly every time that I turn on the TV in the early afternoon I am treated to a display of either Gov. Inslee or Donald Trump exercising their own first amendment rights and often ignoring one or more of our own rights as citizens. However, one day after listening to Trump followed by the governor, I belatedly came to a realization. Although I have often disliked Inslee’s actions and statements, I think I will vote for him again, depending on who his opponent is, based on his leadership during the crises that we have been enduring.
I have not heard him speak negatively about people who are experts, nor contradict their knowledge. He does not pretend to know more than they do about their field. He lets them speak without interrupting, also he answers questions from the press, even the ones that are critical and demanding. The media confronts him, reflecting the public’s need to know the truth and he answers without being insulting or dismissive. Also he understands and supports our right to be heard. I do not believe he would deliberately insult someone who does not agree with him. ‘True leadership, the kind we could use at the very top.
