This is in response to a recently printed letter by Ruth Douglas (“Political criticism: Atmosphere risks low voter turnout,” June 27). She’s still grieving over the fact that Al Gore is not our president. I have news for her. There are thousands of us out here who voted for George Bush.
She also believes that Bill Clinton is the best president we’ve ever had. This is a man who lied under oath to the entire nation, who carried on an extra-marital liaison in the White House and whose staff allegedly did several thousand dollars worth of damage in pranks to the White House when they moved out in January 2001. Our best president? I don’t think so. Whether he is “dearly loved” by the majority of Americans is highly questionable.
Bill Clinton was very skilled at speech-making. President Bush is more neighborly in the way he talks to the nation. As far as Al Gore is concerned, he just yelled his way through his entire 2000 campaign, and on election day was photographed in fine imitation of the Kennedys by playing touch football with his kids.
My thanks to Ruth Douglas for stating that we all are entitled to express our opinions.
