I find it interesting that Sen. Jamie Pedersen did not add language regarding fines to his legislation regarding lawmakers and the Public Records Act (“Legislative public records subject of new bill in Washington,” The Herald, Jan. 31). That is the potential $100-a-day penalty for any error in providing records where you can wait 11 months to file the complaint and collect money on each day. Washington state is the only state that has this financial incentive to game the system.
So, the legislature certainly doesn’t want to put out a financial incentive on themselves to flood an agency with requests looking for an error. Certainly shows that you know it is there. Certainly shows you don’t want your budget burdened with this. Smart move.
But don’t you care about other agency budgets?
