I am not worried if baseball players go on strike as reported. Or if they cancel the World Series this year. In fact, I’ll have no problem if they don’t play baseball ever again. Really.
I don’t care about baseball anymore. I can live without it. I stopped patronizing baseball five years ago to protest the players’ greediness and the team owners’ callous disregard of the public interest by continuing to make attending ball games outrageously expensive.
Attendance at baseball games is down this year because the fans are finding it difficult to pay the ever-increasing price of the tickets. And I believe that they have finally realized that they are being taken advantage of by the players and owners who profess that they care about the fans’ welfare but have not done anything to prove it.
Now, I think that the fans are trying to send a message to the fans and owners: enough already. If they don’t do something to make going to the ball parks affordable again, I am not sure if baseball can survive.
