I say to heck with green building standards like Rep. Hans Dunshee says in his Sept. 17 guest commentary “Why Washington state is building green.” I’ve lived in Lake Stevens for more than 20 years, raised three children and watched the population double. They’re building houses in places that 20 years ago would never have been considered. I don’t believe there are any true wetlands safe anymore. I’ve seen more dead and homeless animals than ever on the highways.
I work for the Snohomish School District and the schools are overcrowded. The poor teachers and administrators can’t keep up. I ask, “When are we going to limit the house building and stop allowing developers to get rich?” The schools are old and worn, we don’t need more kids. I’m tired of hearing we need another school in my neighborhood. I say, “Let’s take care of the kids we have in the schools we have. No more growth at all!”
