Your recent editorial on the current developments with the Wild Sky Wilderness effort was welcome and mostly to the point (“Don’t let Wild Sky lose low-land acreage,” July 26). The people of this area, state, and those in the nation who know the value of the priceless region, have been counting on Congress to give it the designation it deserves. The time is now and the delegation needs to step up and finish this job. This would be a sign of real leadership.
The Wild Sky Wilderness has been before Congress for a number of years and every year we’ve been told they got close but we’ll have to wait till next time. It’s been more than 20 years since the last wilderness bill to protect our state’s remaining wild places was passed. It’s time to finish the job.
Rep. Rick Larsen has made us proud by his actions. Now Rep. George Nethercutt needs to keep his word and get the Republican leadership to move our Wild Sky legislation this year. He has a month to show us that they can fight for Washington and deliver.
