To all people who own big gas guzzling SUVs and trucks: Go for it! This country was built on freedom of expression and freedom of choice, and the right to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
To those who are concerned about the environment, remember you have the right to purchase something other than a gas-guzzler. (As far as running out of “fossil fuels,” I thought that was supposed to happen in the 1970s.) Car makers should not be forced to stop making larger vehicles, thereby forcing consumers to buy something else because an environmentalist thinks that’s the way it should be. No one has the right to tell us all what to buy.
I agree with researching alternate sources of power. Solar-powered cars would be great in states like Utah and Arizona. Wind power will work in states like South Dakota. Maybe through this process they can get some people off of fossil fuels. It should however be a choice, not a mandate. If you want a gas-powered car, buy one. Those concerned about pollution should look at regulating our population through education.
As far as OPEC goes, since we have helped Russia discover the largest oil field in the world, we should start buying from them and help their economy. This will solve a lot of the debate about our dependence on Arab oil. A little competition is good and it is a right consumers have: choosing who to buy from. The U.S. is a consumer. Let’s exercise our right to a fair price!
We are the land of the free. Let’s make sure that no one, foreign or domestic, changes that.
