Regarding the editorial board’s endorsement of Proposition 1:
It is a sad day when the editorial board cannot step back and do some real analysis and do what is right for voters. Prop 1 saddles taxpayers with huge, regressive, never-ending tax increases and then spends the majority of the money on light rail, which will provide zero congestion relief. This plan is completely unbalanced.
A small number of high priority Snohomish county road projects are addressed, while dozens more are left untouched with no funding or priority in site. The Herald board seems to agree with Sound Transit that any plan, including a bad one, is better than nothing. Even Ron Sims, King County executive and previous Sound Transit board member — a politician who has never met a tax increase he didn’t like — thinks this is a bad plan. Kemper Freeman, Bellevue businessman and real estate tycoon extraordinaire has stated that Prop 1 is “unbelievable” and that voters “are being conned.” Too bad The Herald board can’t show the courage to call Prop 1 what it really is: A pig with lipstick.
Voters should demand realistic and balanced transportation solutions. Vote no on Prop 1!
