No political party has monopoly on it

In response to Sherri Daley’s letter from July 14 (“Be respectful while exercising freedom”): Ms. Daley made reference to the Everett Fourth of July parade in which she and her daughters were riding in a parade float with Kim Halvorson, GOP, running for 38th District representative. Ms. Daley noted that people along the parade route were rude and yelled out unkind things that were hurtful to her and her daughters. She concluded in her letter that these people were Democrats – adults and children.

I was concerned and puzzled that she had arrived at this far-reaching conclusion. She further stated in her letter that after this experience she would be reluctant, in the future, to ever trust Democrats again, even if she agreed with them!

In the most diplomatic way possible, I would ask Ms. Daley to tell us how she could be so convinced these people were, in fact, Democrats.

Sadly, we all observe people every day who act without regard to others and certainly show less than enough kindness to others. But it would be impossible to know if those individuals were Democrats, GOP or even Independents.

Hopefully, the point Ms. Daley is really trying to make is that all of us, as a society, and for the benefit of our children, must display acts of kindness and show respect for others absent of any political affiliation.
