I was very pleased and relieved to hear that President Bush and his closest advisers are not worried, since they believe that the Republicans will continue to hold the majority in Congress after the election. After all, these are the same people who thought that invading Iraq would somehow promote democracy, that they would somehow find proof of a weapons program, that the war was a simple matter of a quick invasion and they could proclaim “Mission Accomplished.”
These are also the people who thought that they could convince us that privatizing Social Security was a good idea, that a Medicare drug plan that is slanted against the retirees of the working class would solve our medical crisis, and whose racist policies caused them to turn their backs on the poor in New Orleans during the worst natural disaster in modern history. Yes, with this optimistic way of thinking and their excellent track record of predictions so far, it makes me glad to hear they think they are going to win next month. Or do they have more election night tricks up their sleeves?
