The Feb. 6 Herald front page headline, “War jitters help drive area gas prices higher” got me thinking. Several weeks ago, I purchased regular unleaded for $1.15 per gallon. Last week it was $1.40.
A 25-cent increase is a pretty steep increase in such a short time. More than five weeks ago, media reported “the possibility of higher gasoline prices, in the event of war.”
There is no war, yet prices climbed anyway. What if there is no real shortage of oil? Who can tell for sure?
What if this is just a ploy or trick by the gasoline companies so they can harvest extra dollars by taking advantage of consumers?
