Thanks to our illustrious freshman Senator Maria Cantwell, partisan politics has been taken to a new low. Maria Cantwell went along with her Democratic colleagues on the Judiciary Committee in axing the nomination of Judge Priscilla Owen because the pro-abortion groups didn’t feel that Judge Owen wasn’t pro-abortion enough for them.
There was nothing wrong with the nomination of Judge Owen to the Federal Bench, but the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee felt that they could kill the nomination without much political fallout and force President Bush to nominate more liberal judges.
This is a total abuse of congressional oversight, and should be an event that we remember when Senator Cantwell comes up for re-election.
