Four years ago I supported Norma Jean Dierck for Marysville City Council and I still do. Some of her detractors would say she always votes no. But if voting no to raising property taxes is bad, then that’s the kind of no votes I want. If saying no to raising my utility rates is bad, then give me more no’s. If saying no to putting a skateboard park miles out of town instead of downtown (as it ended up) so kids can get to it then why is that bad? She does her homework also. The independent research she did on the State Street plan would have made traffic move and supported local businesses, but the majority of the council ignored her.
In doing volunteer work for the county, I know Norma Jean goes beyond just her immediate council job. She also does volunteer work in the community, just one thing being collecting water samples for the county. She is also on a watershed committee I am on (at no pay, compared to city committees) and as an individual has been working with representatives of other agencies to acquire more parks for our area. She has the vision to look beyond the immediate city limits.
There is a well-orchestrated, well-financed campaign to smear this hard working council person, funded by local developers in addition to her opponent’s campaign. If you want to go back to “go along to get along,” vote for her opponent. If you want a truly independent voice, re-elect Norma Jean Dierck.
