I just had to respond to the Thursday letter by Russell Wlazlak, “Addicts ruining north part of the city.”
Wlazlak states that every time he comes to north Everett he has an encounter with a drunk or drug addict. I find that hard to believe, since I have lived here for four years and have not once had this type of encounter.
We live just blocks from the Colby campus of Providence Everett Medical Center, right in the heart of north Everett. We live in a beautiful historic home, surrounded by lovely neighbors, amazing parks and are just minutes from the waterfront.
Our daughter attends Whittier Elementary – an incredible school that we feel blessed to be part of. I do most of my shopping in downtown/north Everett. We have occasionally noticed activities in the area that may have been drug related. We called the police and let them handle it, which they have done every time.
This is no different than any other area that we have lived, whether it was Seattle, Montana, Florida or the American Virgin Islands. No matter where you are, there will be drug activity and bad people. To think that this type of thing only occurs in north Everett and to be surprised that people may be under the influence of illegal drugs during daytime hours shows naivete. North Everett is wonderful, thriving and much of it is being revitalized. Downtown is full of wonderful businesses, as is the waterfront.
Those of us who call north Everett home enjoy a close-knit community where you know your neighbors by their first names, enjoy everything this end of town has to offer and feel a strong sense of pride when we say that this is our home. Can Wlazlak say the same thing?
