I am surprised and saddened a dentist co-wrote the guest commentary on your Thursday opinion page, “Fluoridated water a safe, low-cost health tool.” All my research, and all the dental professionals I know, confirm fluoride is effective only when applied topically, such as in toothpaste and mouthwash. In drinking water with fluoride, the benefits diminish to insignificance at best, and softening young bones at worst.
I have chosen to have filtered water in my house that has no fluoride or chlorine. It tastes great and I know I am doing myself and my family a huge favor.
