I like that everyone loves history. A building built of wood on pilings over water in 1923 should not be a large red elephant on the Port of Everett’s taxpayers. Not everything is able to be saved.
For those of us who have been following this non-stop controversy, I would like to personally say “enough is enough.” Stop wasting taxpayer dollars on a building that can’t be saved. That is if we taxpayers don’t shell out $10 million to $15 million to save it. If there was an economic way to save the building, it would have happened by now.
The port has been very accommodating to this building and the historical group over the years, but I think the commission made the right decision to tear it down. Since I love history, I appreciate the lengths the port has gone to to document the building’s history and offer other parts of the building for other historical properties.
