As mentioned in two recent articles in the Everett Herald, officials from FERC came from the other Washington to a site visit and scoping meeting at Canyon and Sunset falls hosted by Snohomish County PUD. Prior to the visit I went onto the SnoPUD website. Specifically to the page that lists the commissioners. I discovered that the button to send an email directly to the commissioners does not function. I sent an email to question this dysfunction. As a ratepayer and registered voter, I should have some way of communicating directly with these elected officials.
The reason for my message to them was to request that they participate in this visit to see for themselves what the majority of ratepayers directly affected by this project and others are saying. Hundreds of people and signs clearly stated opposition to the intrusion of SnoPUD’s proposed dam all along the tour route on both sides of the river despite PUD employees attempt to down play residents strong feelings and the attempt to keep the FERC representatives from seeing for themselves the community that would be destroyed.
In my opinion, either SnoPUD employees failed to communicate my request or the commissioners have completely disrespected the people whose lives will be forever severely affected if SnoPUD is allowed to carry out this dam project. None of the commissioners or General Manager Steve Klein attended the tour. They also disregard Washington state’s scenic designation and ignore voter mandates in I-937 for clean energy credits, which this project does not provide.
