Recently, I received a notice in the mail from the Snohomish County Council that council members are to meet soon to review County Executive Bob Drewel’s proposal to increase budgets for the surface water management (SWM) fee substantially (more than 200 percent) in the next two years. I want to voice my opposition to this proposed budget increase.
County government leaders don’t seem to get it no matter what the voters declare! Did they not read the recent election results from Initiative 722 which limits property tax increases to a maximum of 2 percent per year? I do not think the SWM program deserves to use all the budget increase available for 2001.
The council must have had this mailing ready to send out (hiding it until after the election). Why did the council not have a proposal ready that would address the significant county government reductions that will have to be made to comply with I-722? Please advise county residents as to where county government will be cut to meet I-722 limits, instead of continual planss to increase them.
