I live in Edmonds, near the Lynnwood border, and for many years have enjoyed running with my dogs in Lynndale Park, off Olympic View Drive. This park has always had well-trimmed jogging paths, and trees downed by storms rapidly cleared.
However, a new parks policy has apparently been established, resulting in trees felled by a storm on May 17 still blocking trails, and overgrown paths now permitting only one-at-a-time progress, instead of three abreast. In addition, the city has undergone an extremely aggressive policy of police enforcement of leash laws within the park, with many dog owners being ticketed (no warnings are issued) and fined.
The people who loved going through the park with their beloved pets also were a presence at all times, keeping predators from using the park, and picking up refuse left by neighborhood children.
Now the park is empty, refuse is everywhere, and the park is not being maintained. I urge the citizens of Lynnwood to take action at the polls at your next opportunity to elect opponents for each of the incumbents. This is the only way to reclaim your city, and to strike a blow for fairness and decency.
