I was alarmed yet not surprised to read that Island County Public Health nurses and other staff have quit (“Island County nurses quit over concerns about covid response,” The Herald, Dec. 28).
Our state decimated funding for public health years ago when the voters approved the initiative to drastically reduce car tabs. Public health was largely funded through this tax and funding has not been adequately replaced.
I know some of the wonderful public health nurses at Island County. They are so dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of the entire community. Now who will fill this urgent need?
