To respond to those readers who wrote last week and expressed frustration with a perceived lack of family entertainment available locally, please be advised that the Northwest Savoyards produce a very high grade of musical theater and will open their 2006-2007 season on Friday with a four-week run of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular opera, “The Mikado.”
While I realize many Everett residents might not be familiar with the works of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, having attended several rehearsals of this particular show, I can personally assure the public that it is a total hoot without being offensive to anyone except possibly parliament. The youngest members of the audience might not get the complete gist of the political satire but my 6-year-old nephew absolutely adores Gilbert and Sullivan. And if that is not family-oriented enough for everyone, the company’s second presentation opening in January will be “The Sound of Music.”
